Description
From the Carolingian Ebo Gospels, Reims, between 816 and 835
Unlike previous examples of the courtly and palatine school, elements from different models are integrated here, forming a harmonious and comprehensible unity with the general overview, to which the radiant gold of the writing contributes, the structuring by the discrete inner black contours, ornamental backgrounds and, last but not least, delicate application of color, especially in the use of the lighter shade of purple and a brilliant turquoise.
